The mattress features our 7-Zone natural latex core, which was designed, based upon sleep studies at the Kirschgartenclinic in Basel, Switzerland by Swiss researcher and sleep specialist, Dr. Dietrich Schneider-Helmert. The 7-Zone design was found to provide optimal sleeping comfort and ergonomic support to all parts of the body.
Skilled craftsmen hand layer the staple cotton padding on each side of the 7-Zone latex core to provide additional padding and support. These inner materials are then encased in Royal Pedic's Belgian 100% cotton ticking which provides ventilation of body heat, and finally hand tufted with European tufting straps to further pre-compress the cotton padding and provide firm, yet supple support.
Royal-Pedic Box Spring construction is the finest available. Royal Pedic provides 22% more coils than is standard for extra support and durability, and have 50% more coils located in the center-third of the box spring to support the body where it's needed most.

Benefits of a Royal Pedic Latex 7-Zone Mattress / Boxspring:
This latex is so healthy and ecologically friendly that it passes strict European standards. These standards certify that the latex has no chemical properties that would cause a reaction to humans, and that it causes no detrimental impact to the environment during manufacturing. In addition, this latex is hygienic, hypoallergenic and antibacterial. The 7 zones mean that each section of your body needs different types of support and each has a specially chosen formulation of latex inserted to best support it. As a result, these 7 zones combine shoulder and hip flexibility with correct support for the lower back.
Zone 1. Head and Neck Zone This zone provides a proper level of firmness for your Head and Neck to help prevent tension and pain in the neck muscles. Zone 2. Shoulder and Upper Back Zone Because your shoulder is the widest part of your body, it requires more 'give' than the hips or lower back. A hard mattress doesn't allow your shoulders to contour into the mattress, so it can cause pressure point pain and circulation problems. This zone provides the necessary softness for your shoulders to conform in comfort. For further flexibility when sleeping on your side, two half moon shaped Pressure Relaxation Channels are incorporated throughout the width of the Shoulder and Upper Back Zone. Whether you sleep on your side or back, the 7-Zone Mattress provides relaxing pressure point relief and spinal alignment. |

Zone 3. Lower Leg Zone
This zone features the same firmness and Pressure Relaxation Channels as the Shoulder and Upper Back Zone. It creates soft and supple support for the calf and provides comfort and pressure point relief to your feet and ankles when your knees are bent.
Zone 4. Lumbar Zone
This very important zone is essential to lower back comfort. It features the most firmness in order to provide support for the natural curve in your back and prevent the spine from sagging, thereby relieving tension and lower back pain. On average, humans carry 40% of their body weight in their midsection. Without the additional firmness of the Lumbar Zone, a soft mattress forces your spine into a hammock-like bend due to the inherent nature of gravity. Muscles become stretched and strained resulting in stiffness and pain.
Zone 5. Pelvic Zone
Hard mattresses force your hips to rest on the mattress surface, thereby causing your lower spine to bend into an uncomfortable, downward angled position. The softer, more flexible Pelvic Zone allows your hips to contour into the mattress for pressure point relief and proper spinal alignment. Our exclusive, circular Pressure Relaxation Channel provides further mattress flexibility and comfort when you sleep on your side.
Zone 6. Knee Zone
This zone features the same firmness as the Lumbar Zone. Latex is inherently supple in nature, so it provides correct support for your knees, preventing sensitivity and inflammation.
Zone 7. Foot and Ankle Zone
Constructed with the same firmness as the Head and Neck Zone, this soft and supple zone provides comfort and pressure point relief to your feet and ankles.
Pluses:
- Great lumbar support
- 7-Zone support system prevents your spine from sagging
- Non-temperature sensitive natural latex means that the mattress will be the same level of firmness regardless of room temperature
- Breathable and does not sleep hot like memory foam
- Does not off gas vapors that for some people cause asthma attacks, or other allergic or chemically sensitive reactions
- Naturally dust mite and mold resistant and free from any chemical treatments
- Latex helps contain movement, minimizing night time disturbances from a partner who tosses and turns while they sleep
Minuses:
- Expensive, but well worth every penny
Summary:
Our first Royal Pedic bed was the Royal Latex with an additional 3 inch pillowtop for that floating on air kind of feeling. The manufacturer had recommended that we add the pillowtop as it would wear out sooner than the bed itself and could be replaced easily and more cheaply than the entire mattress. We are now ten years and counting with still no visible signs of wear on the bed. When my husband first climbed into the bed, which incidentally he had not been in favor of buying because of the expense and because he “knew all about” mattresses and had bought the old one, he exclaimed that I was spoiling him and he would never want to get out of bed again. So one must assume he noticed the difference! The only drawback to buying a mattress of this quality is that it makes you cranky when you travel, as suddenly you will have an aching back in the mornings when you get out of the hotel bed. A latex mattress is very kind to ones back and aching joints, and for an arthritis sufferer it helps a great deal to lessen that early morning stiffness.Since I have long been a fan of Royal Pedic mattresses when a customer of ours canceled a custom order a couple of years back to upgrade to a more expensive model, I nobly said I would take this mattress into my own home for our guest room. When I first felt the Royal Pedic quilt top mattress, which is the most popular in the Royal Pedic line, I worried that it might be too hard given I was used to the pillowtop version. I confess to being pleasantly surprised. I gave the mattress a test run on my aching back and was transported to mattress heaven. I could feel that whichever way I moved on the mattress it was immediately responsive and if I turned over, the latex immediately regained its original shape. I decided it was the perfect place to do my stretching exercises instead of the floor and you will not be surprised to learn that after stretching I fell deeply asleep until my husband found me several hours later. Right now I have changed to sleeping on the quilt top instead of the pillowtop just so I can do my morning exercises in bed!
I am always amazed why people rush to buy new cars every three years but keep their mattresses until it has ruts, lumps and bumps and they wake up feeling bruised in the morning. I can recommend this brand of mattresses without hesitation; sleeping well gives you a whole new attitude to life and these latex mattresses will do it for you. I cannot recommend them more highly!
