The Miele Classic C1 Olympus represents an excellent value with Miele quality construction and reliable performance. It features variable suction control, choice of AirClean or HEPA filter and large 4.76 quart AirClean dust bags. The Miele C1 Olympus is the most affordable Miele vacuum packaged with a combination floor tool. It is an ideal starter vacuum for an apartment or small house with a mix of smooth floors and thin area rugs.

Pluses:
- Respectable filtration maintains healthy indoor air quality. The Super Air Clean filter is easy to change and is electro-statically charged to retain a majority of dust particles. If you want the best filtration, the active HEPA filter can be purchased separately.
- Though not a certified sealed system, the Olympus's exclusive Air Clean System has been thoroughly researched, developed and tested by Miele's quality control laboratories to ensure it effectively captures and retains dust, dirt and other indoor air pollutants, guaranteeing it is one of the most effective and hygienic methods of removing particulate matter from the home.
- Powerful motor and 6 suction settings accommodate a variety of vacuuming tasks.
- Very low noise output for a pleasurable vacuuming experience. The C1 Olympus features a sound insulation layer that makes it particularly quiet especially when used on the silence setting.
- Mid-sized canister vacuum with a lightweight design weighing only 11 lbs. This makes it very easy to maneuver around the house and carry up or down stairs.
- Miele makes the easiest vacuums to assemble, change floor tools, put on accessory tools, remove the wand, etc. thanks to quick release buttons and snap-into-place construction.
- The combination carpet/smooth floor tool is a economical and convenient floor tool that allows you to go from smooth floors to carpeted surfaces with a click of the foot switch.
- Large 4.76 qt. (approx. 1 gallon) AirClean dust bags. We love these bags because they hold so much and do not need to be replaced until they are truly stuffed full. They are some of the best quality bags we have tested. They are 9 layers thick for filtration quality and durability, have excellent air flow for efficient use, and spring-loaded self-sealing covers for no-mess disposal.
- The handy dust bag change indicator tells you when the bag is full and needs to be replaced, eliminating guessing games and loss of suction due to an overly full bag.
- The Olympus is an unbelievable value for a Miele canister vacuum cleaner. As a budget choice not a luxury vacuum, it lacks some of the extra features and added construction perks found on Miele’s other canister vacuums; however, it does not lack in quality, performance, durability or integrity.
Minuses:
- The lack of a direct connect wand and electric hose prevents the Olympus from being upgraded to accommodate one of Miele's electric power brushes. Since the Olympus only comes with a combination floor tool, it is not the best vacuum choice for someone who has lots of carpeting or thick, plush rugs.
- Not a Miele certified sealed system.
- Does not have integrated PVC bumper guards.
- No integrated accessory tool storage. The tools are kept on the wand with a clip-on tool caddy.
- Miele's crevice tool is not as long as we would have liked. It only offers a 4-inches reach where some competitors offer a full size 8-inch crevice tool.
- Miele's dusting brush has the industry standard round design which we have found clogs easily when used on high suction because the bristles are sucked inwards. A triangular dusting brush proves to be a more efficient design because it does not become clogged by its bristles.
Summary:
The Miele Classic C1 Olympus offers Miele's high quality German construction and parts, but with a budget-friendly price. Through quality engineering Miele has cut costs on these vacuums by streamlining the design to use less parts (NOT less quality parts) and leaving out unnecessary extras and luxury features. The Miele Olympus does not lack in durability and is designed to last an average of 20 years. If you live in a small apartment with smooth floors and thin area rugs and are looking for a simple, starter vacuum the Miele C1 Olympus would be a great choice.
