One of Ogallala's finest and most elegant comforters, the Aspen hypoallergenic comforter, is in a class of it's own. The Ogallala Comfort Company Aspen comforter combines huge, 18" baffled box chambers with a fill power of 900—all covered in 485 thread count cotton sateen, making this the perfect choice for a sumptuous night's sleep. When classifying a comforter, we often follow this rule of thumb—a thread count of over 250 is considered high quality and a thread count of over 400 is considered luxury. Thread count refers to the number of threads per inch of a fabric. A higher count offers a smoother and silkier fabric feel and also provides a stronger barrier to prevent fill from escaping from the comforter. Another key ingredient is the fill. The cleanliness of the feathers plays a significant role in the comfort of the quilt. Down feathers are naturally hypoallergenic, however, an allergic reaction is often the cause of dirt, dust and allergens in the bedding and not from the feathers in the quilt. A quality down comforter is filled with feathers that have been washed, rinsed and dried several times. These Ogallala comforters are filled with a clean blend of 70% pure white goose down and 30% syriaca clusters (the soft hollow fibers of the milkweed plant). The resulting blend of fill also wicks moisture away from your body far more quickly than either down or synthetics—it is light and fluffy to encourage circulation and makes a very cozy, hypoallergenic comforter.

Down has natural enemies. For instance, the humidity in your house, lotions, hair conditioners and the perspiration from your body all weigh down the filaments in down. If your pillow or comforter seems to be going flat, clumping, and/or separating, it is most likely moisture or oil robbing it of its original loft. Laundering the product should adequately clean it and bring back its original fluffiness; however, this is not a guarantee. DO NOT DRY CLEAN. The chemicals used actually break down the composition of down fiber. The more you clean your product, the more you will actually cause breakdown of the natural product. Therefore, spot cleaning is the best practice for cleaning down products. When professional laundering is needed to keep your Ogallala product luxurious, we recommend Blanc Plume French Laundry (1-800-307-0229), a company that specializes in cleaning fine linens, antiques and comforters. To clean your comforters and pillows they use a special, natural process which preserves the life of delicate goose down. They also ensure that your down is dried properly and thoroughly, at low temperatures, to allow for maximum loft. They also offer comforter restoration services as well.

The At-Home Laundering Instructions:
The “do-it-yourself” laundering approach is at your own risk and voids any warranty coverage. We would highly recommend to leave the laundering to the professionals! However, if you are feeling brave, here’s how:
1. Use a large-capacity, front-loading washing machine. DO NOT use a top-loading washing machine.
2. Detergent must be an approved down-wash, such as Down Wash (by Le Blanc) or Dreft. DO NOT use Woolite.
3. Washing machine settings should be on cold water and the cycle should be DELICATE or HAND WASH.
4. After the first cycle is complete, run the cycle again without detergent to ensure all of the soap is removed.
5. Dry in a large-capacity dryer at medium heat for a minimum of 6-8 hours, checking every 30 minutes to pull apart down clumps. When you think your comforter or pillow is dry, put it back into the dryer for one or two more cycles. Yes, you just read that right! DO NOT attempt to air dry since it will not dry quickly enough and will cause mildew.
Hypodown comes in different fill powers which is the technical term for the space one ounce of down occupies in cubic inches. The higher the fill power, the better the clusters are at trapping air and keeping you warm. Higher fill power also gives you more warmth with a lighter weight comforter.

The Aspen Hypodown 900 Fill comforters feature 70% pure white goose Down and 30% Syriaca clusters. The down and syriaca in these comforters is the cleanest, least treated fibers we could find anywhere—due to the quality of materials used, cleaning process and the addition of the natural Syriaca clusters.

Summary:

Down comforters appeal to those who like the “puffy” look, and the Ogallala Comfort Company Hypodown line is as good as it gets for those of us who are allergic to down. It is a fusion of down and Syriaca which in part explains its unusual hypoallergenic properties. Whichever style of Hypodown comforter you choose, you are not going to be disappointed. This manufacturer makes beautifully-constructed comforters where there have been no shortcuts in any part of the fabrication process. The most important part of a down comforter is the quality of its fill—the higher the fill power, the better the clusters are at trapping air and keeping you warm. Higher fill power also gives you more warmth with a lighter weight comforter. The next important feature is the quality of manufacturing and its construction, which you find in Hypodown is box baffling which makes sure the down has enough room to remain lofted but does not shift around. We have used Ogallala comforters for years and only after years of use do you even see the barest of wear on the stitching. To avoid any wear at all, we recommend covering you comforter with a duvet cover to protect it.

For allergy sufferers, the cleanliness and hypoallergenic properties of the down is paramount, and the Hypodown Collection does it better than most because it introduces a tiny amount of Syriaca into the down, which in turn enhances its hypoallergenic properties. You do not need the most expensive covering—this comforter will last more than a lifetime if given proper care and that means putting it into a duvet cover to keep it protected. Most important of all, in our personal opinion, is that these eco-friendly Hypodown comforters are cruelty free and the down is not “hand harvested”, instead it is naturally collected as part of the molting process. Hand harvesting is banned in some countries and for good reason. Hypodown is collected in a way that is cruelty free and protects the monarch butterfly habitat, so animal lovers need not feel guilty when purchasing this comforter.

These Ogallala Comfort Company Aspen 484 thread count warm yypodown 900-fill comforters are Ogallala's most elegant, luxurious and extravagant comforters and they will keep you warm and toasty as only down can do while not provoking an allergic reaction. It does not get better than that.

The use of a duvet cover is required to maintain your warranty. We are not responsible for incidental damages, such as tears in the fabric, signs of abuse, improper care or cleaning, or for fabric worn by perspiration, oils, or fragrance. The product has to retain the Ogallala law label and care label.
