1. How is the ICON different from other air purification systems?
The ICON is the only system on the market that utilizes Air Replacement Technology (ART™). Unlike recirculating air cleaners, the ICON takes in fresh air from outside the home that is already five times cleaner than the air in the home. The ICON then sterilizes and cleans the fresh air to 99.998%, one thousand times cleaner than the purified air coming out of a recirculating HEPA filter system. The normal HEPA filter system cleans recirculated stale air to 98%. The ICON HEPA filter system cleans incoming fresh air to 99.998%. The volume of fresh air needed by the ICON is only one tenth of the air flow required for the best recirculating HEPA filter system making it more efficiency and quieter.
2. Why does the ICON use outside air?
Outdoor air is cleaner. Extensive testing of the air inside our homes has documented over 580 hazardous airborne chemicals that are not found in the air outside our homes. Because the ICON uses one tenth the flow and the outside air is five times cleaner than the air inside the home, the custom ICON HEPA filter will remain fifty times cleaner.
3. Why is it important to replace your home’s indoor air with fresh clean air?
Breathing fresh clean air is good for your health. The ICON uses positive air pressure to push fresh clean air into the home and flush out all 580 types of hazardous airborne chemicals. Recirculating air purification systems cannot do this as they are only cleaning a portion of the polluted indoor air. The EPA suggests the best way to address indoor air pollution is to ventilate a home with clean outdoor air. The ICON draws in fresh outdoor air and passes it through a sterilization chamber and then a MERV 19 submicron HEPA filter to deliver fresh clean air into the home.
4. What size room can the ICON effectively clean?
The ICON is a whole house clean air delivery system that can effectively cover a 4,000 sq. ft. home. The ICON uses positive air pressure to gradually displace polluted air throughout the entire home.
5. Can the ICON be installed in any home?
The ICON is a small window unit and requires installation in a double hung style window with a minimum width of 24-inches and a maximum width of 36-inches. It can be installed vertically in a slider window that is 18-inches wide and a maximum of 36-inches high.
6. How long does it take to install a ICON?
A standard installation takes approximately 30 minutes.
7. Is the ICON easy to use?
The ICON is easy to install and simple to operate. Simply plug the unit into a standard 120 volt outlet and press the POWER button. The onboard computer system takes care of the rest.
8. How often should the ICON run?
We recommend that the ICON run continuously for maximum protection from airborne contamination in your home.
9. How loud is the ICON?
The ICON is extremely quite due to its low cfms. It operates at less than 50 decibels.
10. What is the MERV rating of the Submicron HEPA Filter?
The ICON’s Submicron HEPA Filter has a MERV 19 rating. The filter is the highest rated filter for residential use.
11. How often should I replace the filters?
There are two filters that need to be replaced. They are the Submicron HEPA filter and the Activated Carbon Filter. We recommend they be replaced once every 12 months.
12. Can I change the filters myself?
Yes, the filters are very easy to change. It takes less than 5 minutes to replace both HEPA and Carbon filters.
13. What types of contaminates will the ICON remove from the air?
The ICON displaces all sizes and types of airborne micro-contamination, VOCs, and harmful gases. They include: Molds, pollen, fungus, bacteria, virus, dust mites, animal dander, household dust, cooking smoke and grease, wood and tobacco smoke.
14. What is the average electrical cost to operate an ICON?
Very low, just pennies a day. The cost equates to operating a 75 watt light bulb.
15. Does the ICON emit Ozone?
No, there is no detectable ozone produced by the ICON.
