Built-in timer: the wand operations on run times in intervals of 5 or 60 minutes, at the end of the selected run time the wand will shut off. It can also be set for continuous use and manually turned off when you are done cleaning.

* Independent testing at a nationally recognized antimicrobial testing laboratory confirmed Verilux Sanitizing Wands effectively eliminate H1N1 and MRSA viruses on surfaces. During testing, MRSA and H1N1 culture organisms were exposed to the CleanWave sanitizing light for 1 second at a distance of 22mm (0.86 inches) and showed a 99.99% reduction in MRSA and a 98.7% reduction of the H1N1 virus. The H1N1 culture organism showed an additional reduction of 99.98% of organisms that remained after a further 5 second exposure.
How it Works:
CleanWave® Sanitizing Technology - When bacteria, viruses, mold, dust mites, and other microorganisms are exposed to the CleanWave UV-C light, the DNA in each cell is disrupted, damaging the nucleic acid. This prevents the microorganism from replicating.
Product Usage:
Effective exposure times to UVC light varies depending on surface to be sanitized. The rule of thumb is to allow the light to remain on a surface for 10 seconds at 1"-3" elevation to destroy most organisms. Recommended exposure times for common uses are as follows:
Bedding/Mattresses: hold wand approximately 2 inches from surface and gradually move the wand over the entire surface. Allow the light to stay on each area for 5-15 seconds to ensure optimum exposure.
Personal hygiene items (brushes, toothbrushes, earrings, razors): Place items on counter and expose them to the light for 10 seconds at 2 inches from the surface of each item.
Kitchen utensils: Place on counter (away from water) and expose to the light for 10 seconds at 3 inches away from surface of each item.
Counters and bathroom fixtures: Hold wand 2-4 inches above the surface and expose surface to the light for 10-20 seconds.
Shoes: Expose insides of shoes to light for 5 minutes each week to eliminate athlete's foot fungus.
Fruits and Vegetables: Expose them to light for only 10 seconds while holding Sanitizing Wand 6-10 inches away. Do not overexpose as this may cause a change in the flavor of the fruits or vegetables.
Since the UVC light disrupts DNA in cells, it should never be used on pets, plants or food products (unless as directed). It should also never be allowed to shine on human exposed skin or directly into your eyes. These products are equipped with protective systems to turn the UVC light off when the device it turned upward towards the eyes.

We are so glad to see that Verilux included a Safety Shut-off on their sanitizing wand. This is very helpful to guard against accidental exposure of the UV-C light to the eyes and skin.
Easy to use with an easy to grip handle, finger-tip controls and lightweight design (only 1.5 lbs).
Silent operation allows for use whenever without a noisy disturbance
Many years of use with minimal maintenance. The Verilux sanitizing wand is rechargeable and does not need replacement batteries and the UV-C bulb is rated for 15,000 hours which is about 7 years with average use

This also means direct exposure to the UV-C light is dangerous to our eyes and skin. The Safety Shut-off feature helps protects against unwanted exposure to the light due to improper use or misuse by shutting the light off if the wand it turned light side up. Overall the use of the Verilux Cleanwave UV-C sanitizing light wand is a safer option for you, your family, and the environment, than the use of chemical solutions for the sanitization of household surfaces. We also were pleased that this wand is rechargeable and does not require batteries.
