Product Usage:
The fan runs continuously on this unit. The compressor only will turn off either when the bucket is full or when the set humidity has been reached. There is a two-fold benefit from the fan always running which is first, the humidistat will detect an increase in humidity gradually due to the constant flow of air from the room which will prevent the compressor from turning on pre-maturely. Second, the fan will both circulate the air throughout the room to enhance the mixing of the humidity in the air and also assist with the drying of any residual moisture inside the unit to prevent bacteria and mold. Finally, the concern over electricity used is minor since the fan running is similar to the wattage from a light bulb and it is the compressor that uses the majority of the electricity.

The Sunpentown SD-65E is a no-nonsense, well equipped dehumidifier designed to tackle damp and musty environments with ease. The Sunpentown is Energy Star rated for quick extraction of water at a rate of 65 pints every 24 hours and is suitable for basements up to 1,300 square feet.
Pluses:
Capable of low temperature operation down to 41°F and will remove up to 65 pints of moisture per day, making it a good choice for basements up to 1,300 square feet.
There are 3 options for water removal - by manually emptying the water collection bucket, attaching a water hose for continuous drainage down a floor drain or by hooking up a condensate pump to direct the water up and out a window. The continuous drainage outlet sits up an acceptable 11" from the floor making draining the water via gravity a much easier task.
Easy to operate: this unit is fitted with a soft-touch electronic panel and straightforward, intuitive controls for effortless operation.
Incorporates an adjustable humidistat ranging from 35% to 80% and helps to keep the humidity at a comfortable level and saves energy. Whatever humidity level that is chosen, the Sunpentown will unfailingly cycle the compressor on or off depending on room conditions. By consistently keeping a healthy humidity level it will be easier to control and reduce the growth of mold, musty odors and dust mites.
Also, this dehumidifier is equipped with a hygrometer which will display the actual room humidity level (within 5% accuracy).
Features a good sized bucket with a capacity of 21 pints, which means fewer trips to empty the container. Front-loading bucket was trouble free to remove and has a sturdy handle for easy carrying.
The washable air filter slides out from the side of the unit for easy access when it needs to be cleaned.
Energy star rated and equipped with a R410a refrigerant: making it eco-friendly and energy efficient which will help you save on your electricity bill.
Minuses:
We were a bit disappointed with the design of the continuous drainage hook up and the fact that it did not include a hose or the option to attach a standard garden hose. Overall, feeding the hose from the back and through the unit was cumbersome and took some patience.
Summary:
After our review team put the Sunpentown SD-65E to the test, we concluded that this no-frills, easy-to-operate dehumidifier is equipped with all the standard features you need for removing excess moisture in areas up to 1,300 square feet. The SD-65E isn't our quietest dehumidifier when the compressor kicks on or while operating on its highest fan speed. Therefore, it may not be the best choice for a bedroom or an area where little noise is preferred. However, the noise level is acceptable for a finished or unfinished basement.
