Care of: The 1" MERV-8 65% 1" Pleated Filter is not washable and should be replaced every six months. Around every six months, the 1/4" pre-filter can be washed with water and then reinstalled after completely dry. To increase the filtration of the air while maintaining its capacity and efficiency we offer the MERV 11 pleated fabric filter as a replacement. This is the same efficient filter used on all of the other Santa Fe models.

New for 2012, Santa Fe improved their number 1 selling crawl space dehumidifier making it more efficient and increasing its pint removal and square foot coverage. The Santa Fe Compact is now the Compact 2 and is the most effective and efficient dehumidifier for exceptionally tight spaces. Santa Fe offers a variety of optional kits for the Compact 2 which increases it ability to work in just about any tricky space that needs high capacity moisture removal such as a basement, crawl space or between the floor joists in the ceiling.
Pluses:
High capacity rating of up to 1800 square feet.
Energy efficient. Better efficiency means lower operating cost - in many cases saving hundreds of dollars per year in electricity.
Has a washable pre-filter and replaceable pleated MERV 8 filter that can be easily accessed for cleaning or replacement. The 1" pleated fabric filter and a 1/4" aluminum framed pre-filter captures particles (including mold spores) down to 3 micron in size.
Heavy duty metal construction for long-lasting use.
To prevent the evaporator coils from icing up this unit will automatically turn the compressor off until the coils warm up.
The Compact 2 dehumidifiers will automatically restart at the original setting after a power outage.
The engineers at Therma-Stor designed remote ducting kits, hang kits, caster kits and condensate pumps for use with the Santa Fe Compact. These optional kits provide the ultimate in flexibility for your specific installation requirements.
Minuses:
Continuous drainage hose is located at the bottom requiring the Compact 2 to be elevated in order for the water to drain into the reservoir of a pump.
Although it is compact it still weighs 55 pounds but there is an optional Caster kit available if one wishes to make it easier to move.
Summary:
For applications where it is not necessary for the biggest dehumidifier for a medium crawl space or basement the Santa Fe Compact 2 is the ideal choice. Although small it will not disappoint you with its results. We like that they've considered every situation and application with the accessories that are available to you. For tight areas one can mount it between the joists with a hang kit or locate it in an adjoining room using the duct kit. They also have an optional condensate pump kit if one elects to pump the water up to the first floor, into a sink, or to the outside through a window. Furthermore, if you wish to be able to move it from one area to another you can consider the caster kit so you can wheel it around. Although very powerful it is still energy efficient and we are impressed with the sturdy metal construction. About the only thing we could find fault with was that the drainage hose is located at the bottom of the Compact so it is necessary to elevate it a few inches in order to allow the water to drain into the reservoir of the pump. However, we think this is one of the best options available to someone looking to dehumidify a cool moist crawlspace or basement up to 1800 square feet without having to deal with something too large.
