The Miele Eclipse canister vacuum cleaner is the deluxe model of S4 Galaxy Series. Unlike the entry level models, it comes standard with HEPA filtration, a swivel neck deluxe handle and +/- push button electronic suction controls. It is packaged with 3 accessory tools and a combination carpet/floor tool. It is a great choice for an apartment or small condo with a mix of bare floors and low pile area rugs.

With a HEPA exhaust filter and sealed system construction, the Eclipse keeps your indoor air quality excellent by trapping dust and other particles inside the vacuum cleaner. Our testing showed it exhausts 0 particles back into the room and actually improves the air quality of the room as you vacuum!
Just as powerful as their larger siblings, the compact S4 canisters have the same 1200 watt motor and 6 suction speeds which make it possible to clean thick carpets as well as small rugs and curtains.
The Eclipse has built-in silence insulation for ultra quiet vacuuming and its non-motorized floor tools do not add any noise.
The Eclipse is a compact canister vacuum weighing only 10.5 lbs. We cannot stress enough how easy the S4 vacuums are to maneuver, carry and store away in a closet. For those with multi-level homes this is a perfect choice.
The Eclipse has superior maneuverability thanks to its 360 degree swivel wheels, hose that swivels at each end and ergonomic deluxe handle that swivels to reduce wrist strain and provide better control of the floor tool.
This vacuum is very easy to assemble, change the floor tool, put on an accessory tool, removing the wand, etc. thanks to quick release buttons and snap-into-place construction.
The combination carpet/smooth floor tool is a lower cost floor tool that allows you to go from smooth floors to carpeted surfaced with a quick click of the foot switch.
This vacuum gives the option to purchase a parquet twister floor brush for improved cleaning of highly polished or delicate bare flooring and an air driven turbo brush for improved cleaning of carpets and rugs. You can purchase these tools with the vacuum or separately over time as your cleaning needs change.
Though the bags hold just under a gallon (3.7 qt capacity), they are larger and last a lot longer than the bags of comparable compact size vacuums and they keep working until they are truly stuffed full. Miele's AirClean filtering vacuum bags are some of the best quality bags we have tested. They are 9 layers thick for filtration quality and durability, have excellent air flow for efficient use, and spring-loaded self-sealing covers for no-mess disposal.
The handy dust bag change indicator tells you when the bag is full and needs to be replaced, eliminating guessing games and loss of suction due to an overly full bag.
Its 29.5 ft cleaning radius allows plenty of room to move around before needing to change power outlets.
German made for quality and durability, this vacuum is a small investment when you consider it is designed to last for 20 years!
Miele offers a generous warranty on the Eclipse that covers the motor for up to 7 years; parts and labor for 1 year.
Minuses:
Though the Eclipse is a deluxe model, it still lacks some luxury features such as finger tip controls and a filter change indicator.
The S4 canisters do not have integrated bumper guards like the S5 canisters, so use caution as you maneuver around corners and furniture.
The combination carpet/smooth floor tool does a decent job at cleaning all floor surfaces but it is not as ideal for hard wood or delicate smooth floors as a parquet floor brush and is not nearly as effective on carpets as a carpet tool with brush roll action such as a turbo brush or power brush.
Miele's crevice tool is not as long as we would have liked. It only offers a 4" reach where some competitors offer a full size 8" crevice tool.
Miele's dusting brush has the industry standard round design which we have found clogs easily when used on high suction because the bristles are sucked inwards. A triangular dusting brush proves to be a more efficient design because it does not become clogged by its bristles.
The Eclipse stores its accessory tools on a Vario Clip attached to the wand or base of the hose. We are glad to have the tools onboard but find they are more apt to get in the way or get knocked off and lost when they are stored on a clip. We prefer when the tools have integrated spots onboard the vacuum canister.
Summary:
We love the portability, style and convenience of Miele‘s S4 Galaxy Series Vacuum Cleaner. We especially like the S4582 Eclipse with its soft touch midnight purple color and deluxe features that help improve user comforter and convenience. Not to mention it comes standard with Miele’s active HEPA filter and certified sealed system construction to ensure your indoor air is clean and fresh as you vacuum.
The Eclipse standard package is available at an attractive price with a combination carpet smooth floor tool that is easy to use and does a decent job cleaning both bare floors and low pile carpets and rugs. Though the combination floor tool will get the job done, it is not as good at deep cleaning carpets as a turbo brush or power brush, or as good as the parquet floor brush at sweeping dirt from the cracks on hard wood flooring. Luckily, the Eclipse is designed to work with a variety of other non-electric floor tools and accessories.
We offer the Eclipse in three different floor tool packages so you can find the perfect vacuum package to fit your floor cleaning needs and preference. Choose the deluxe package with the parquet twister floor brush if you have highly polished hard wood, parquet or tiled floors. Choose the supreme package with the turbo brush and parquet twister if you have low to medium cut pile carpets and highly polished smooth floors. Whether you buy the Eclipse standard package or the supreme package, we are sure you will love the cleaning power and user-friendliness of this little vacuum.
Though the Eclipse is a deluxe model, it still lacks some luxury features such as finger tip controls and a filter change indicator. However the lack of those added features and the use of a non-electric wand and hose configuration helps keep the Eclipse under the luxury vacuum price point. Overall, the Eclipse is a good value for a vacuum that will last for years and is super easy to use thanks to its +/- push button suction control and an ergonomic deluxe operating handle.
