If you have dreamt of owning a Miele vacuum but the price tag was to high, these new low priced Miele S2121 mid-size canister vacuums are just the ticket! Miele have not sacrificed power, durability or clean air emissions. The S2121 vacuums offer a Vortex Motor System with rotary dial variable suction controls, choice of Super Air Clean or Active HEPA filter and large 4.76 quart AirClean dust bags. The S2121 Olympus is the most affordable of this series and is packaged with a combination carpet/smooth floor tool, best for an apartment or small house with a mix of bare floors and area rugs. The S2121 Delphi is a an amazing deal which includes a 10.5 inch power brush, ideal for homes with low to medium pile carpets. For homes with a mix of carpets and bare floors we have created the Delphi Deluxe Package that includes the 10.5 inch power brush and smooth floor brush.

Pluses:
Respectable filtration maintains healthy indoor air quality. The Super Air Clean filter is easy to change and is electro-statically charged to retain a majority of dust particles. If you want the best filtration, the active HEPA filter can be purchased separately.
Though not a certified sealed system, the S2’s Exclusive CleanAir System has been thoroughly researched, developed and tested by Miele's quality control laboratories to ensure it effectively captures and retains dust, dirt and other indoor air pollutants, guaranteeing it is one of the most effective and hygienic methods of removing particulate matter from the home.
Their powerful 1200 watt motor and 6 suction settings paired with the right floor tools and accessory tools provides a powerful solution for any unique cleaning challenge whether it be new highly polished hard wood floors, delicate fiber rugs, lots of carpeting or a mixed combination.
Very low noise output for a pleasurable vacuuming experience. The S2's feature a new sound insulation layer that makes them particularly quiet especially when used on the silence setting.
The Olympus and Delphi are mid-size canister vacuums with a lightweight design weighing only 11 lbs. This makes them very easy to maneuver around the house and carry up or down stairs.
Miele makes the easiest vacuums to assemble, change floor tools, put on accessory tools, remove the wand, etc. thanks to quick release buttons and snap-into-place construction.
The combination carpet/smooth floor tool (available with the Olympus) is a lower cost floor tool that allows you to go from smooth floors to carpeted surfaces with a quick click of the foot switch. This tool is an economical and convenient choice.
The mid-size power brush (SEB 217-3) (available with the Delphi) has a compact design that is lighter and less bulky than the full-size power brush (SEB 228 or SEB 236) and is better suited for smaller homes that have low-medium pile carpets. However, it does not have height adjustments so is not ideal for thick, high pile carpets. It also does not have a headlight and will not park on its own.
The Parquet floor brush (available with the Delphi Deluxe Package) has two soft rollers for an easy gliding action and genuine horsehair bristles that sweep gently over the floor surface, brushing dust particles out of cracks.
S2’s use the same large 4.76 qt. (approx. 1 gallon) AirClean dust bags as the more expensive S5 series. We love these bags because they hold so much and do not need to be replaced until they are truly stuffed full. They are some of the best quality bags we have tested. They are 9 layers thick for filtration quality and durability, have excellent air flow for efficient use, and spring-loaded self-sealing covers for no-mess disposal.
The handy dust bag change indicator tells you when the bag is full and needs to be replaced, eliminating guessing games and loss of suction due to an overly full bag.
The Olympus and Delphi are an unbelievable value for a Miele canister vacuum cleaner. They are not luxury vacuums and are designed to be a budget series so they lack some of the extra features and added construction perks found on the S4 and S5 models, but do not lack in quality, performance, durability or integrity.
Minuses:
The S2’s are not a certified sealed system like the S4 and S5 series. Though they do not increase the particles in the air, they do not reduce the particle count of the room as is the case with Miele's certified sealed system vacuum cleaners.
Integrated PVC bumper guards are not included on the S2 series, so be careful as you zoom around corners and furniture.
The S2’s do not have integrated accessory tool storage. The tools are kept on the wand with a clip-on tool caddy which we found to occasionally get in the way and the tools are more likely to fall off and get lost then when they are kept under the hood.
Miele's crevice tool is not as long as we would have liked. It only offers a 4" reach where some competitors offer a full size 8" crevice tool.
Miele's dusting brush has the industry standard round design which we have found clogs easily when used on high suction because the bristles are sucked inwards. A triangular dusting brush proves to be a more efficient design because it does not become clogged by its bristles.
Summary:
We are so excited with the new S2121 Olympus and Delphi canister vacuum cleaners. They offer a tremendous value with Miele's high quality German construction and parts, but with a budget friendly price. Through quality engineering Miele has cut costs on these vacuums by streamlining the design to use less parts (NOT less quality parts) and leaving out unnecessary extras and luxury features. The S2121's do not lack in durability and are designed to last an average of 20 years! They are protected with a 7 year warranty on the motor and outer casing.
The S2121 Delphi Standard Package is recommended for low to medium pile carpeted homes. If you have a mix of carpets and smooth floors we recommend choosing the Delphi Deluxe Package that also includes a natural bristle smooth floor brush. If you live in a small apartment or are looking for a simple starter vacuum and have smooth floors with area rugs or low-pile carpet the S2121 Olympus would be a great choice.
We offer the S2121 vacuum cleaners with a choice of exhaust filter. The Super Air Clean filter option offers a lower price however it does not provide the same level of high quality filtration that the active HEPA filter w/ charcoal delivers. If you or someone in your home suffers from allergies we strongly suggest going with the HEPA filter option.
