Description of IQAir ParticleScan Pro Particle Counters

The IQAir ParticleScan Pro is an advanced 6-channel laser particle counter with a detection range of 0.3 to 30 microns. With its 0.025 cfm flow rate it is particularly suitable for the measurement of airborne particle concentrations in normal and polluted indoor and outdoor environments. The IQAir ParticleScan Pro has an internal 14'366 data point memory and is fully network compatible with remote access via built-in web-server. It also features a USB port for direct connection to PC.

It has often been asked how one can tell if an air cleaner or vacuum is really filtering the particulates from the air and we always explained that unless you noticed a considerable improvement in your allergy symptoms it was difficult. However, this changed when several years ago we purchased the IQAIR Particle Scan Pro particle counter. It uses laser diode technology to measure the particulates present in the room at different sizes which allows one to measure how well an air cleaner is at improving the air quality in a room or if a vacuum is keeping everything it is sucking up inside the machine and not allowing any of the particulates to escape back into the room.

Pluses:

  • Lightweight and easy to use
  • Includes software that allows one to download data into their computer
  • Updated real time reading every 6 seconds
  • Can categorize particles into 6 size groups
  • Monitor indoor & outdoor particle concentrations
  • Log and report air pollution levels
  • Demonstrate & compare efficiency of air & vacuum cleaners
  • Track down particulate pollution sources
  • Evaluate effectiveness of pollution control measures

Minuses:

  • It would be nice if it could measure particulates smaller than 0.3 of a micron
  • Rather pricey but its performance is well worth it

Summary:

We have found the IQAIR Particle Scan Pro to be invaluable in our product evaluations that allow us to make independent conclusions without having to rely on biased claims from the manufacturer. It would be nice if it was more affordable for the average consumer to use but is understandable based on its accuracy, quality, and multiple uses for the data it supplies one with. If you have a need to test air quality, you will not be disappointed with your investment in this product. Everything IQAir makes is a superior product.
