Then, make your bed as usual by putting on the sheets over the mattress pad. Because the crimp of the fibers remains intact, it stays lofty and resists compression, unlike most competitors mattress covers.
Sanitized with Ultra-Fresh a fabric treatment registered and EPA approved for domestic fabrics that is and anti-microbial that fights against mold and mildew; it also repels all wool-eating insects, and stays locked in the wool fiber to withstand washing and will last the life of the anti-allergen mattress cover; there is also evidence that Ultra-Fresh repels dust mites
All wool mattress pads are machine wash cold and machine dry cool or line dry, which is especially convenient for babies, children, and the elderly.
Elite wool mattress pads 1 1/2" pile woven on a polyester backing, 65 oz. wool/linear yard, machine washable; has 10 more oz. wool and 1/4" higher pile than Imperial
Imperial wool mattress pads 1 1/4" pile woven on a polyester backing, 55 oz. wool/linear yard, machine washable
Maintains springiness - deep pile, American virgin wool has natural loft, even more so than it's foreign competitors due to a higher degree of crimp for a given diameter of fiber, which will add to the life of these lambswool mattress pads
Natural thermostat - wool has the ability to handle temperature and moisture since it can absorb moisture and still feel dry in the summer which is great for night sweats, and can insulate in the winter to help keep a consistent body temperature.
Relieves joint and back pressure thanks to a naturally curly structure of wool, body weight is supported evenly throughout the night by the mattress cover
Natural deodorizer called lanolin is a naturally occurring substance in wool which prevents the mattress pad from absorbing odors
Flame resistant - wool is the only natural fiber that naturally resists flaming because of its high nitrogen and moisture content, which makes the mattress pads flame retardant

Summary:
This mattress pad is such a favorite of mine. I have one both for ourselves in our master bedroom and in our guest room and have used it for about five years at this point and it is going strong. It is a very soft layer of wool that is not encased- like a sheepskin rug. Contrary to what you might think, the wool is supremely comfortable when placed underneath a sheet. It gives just the right amount of extra softness without taking away from the responsiveness of my latex mattress. Wool has known properties for wicking away moisture in the summer, keeping one cooler when you need it, yet warmer in winter. Because the wool compresses fairly easily, the best way to keep it fresh and hygienic is not to send it to the dry cleaners which is expensive, or even wash it[it sheds like crazy] but gently steam clean it with a steamer which both removes any odor and also lifts up the nap. Incidentally, this is a wonderful gift for the elderly, especially if they are in assisted living or nursing homes where the beds are less than ideal, and the extra softness is comforting.
