How it Works: Manuka Honey vs. Regular Honey: Only Manuka Honey provides non-hydrogen peroxide antibacterial components. Manuka Honey's antibacterial factor is unaffected by enzymes in the body that destroy hydrogen peroxide components. It is highly effective against antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Contains active healing properties not found in other types of honey.
Manuka Honey has an antibacterial activity primarily due to the presence of hydrogen peroxide which is formed in a slow-release manner by the enzyme glucose oxidase. Manuka Honey can be diluted and still destroy bacteria very efficiently. It also contains an additional antibacterial compound found only in honey produced from the Leptospermum plant which is known as the Unique Manuka Factor or UMF. In addition, Manuka Honey is considered to be antimicrobial which means that it can destroy any infectious microorganisms whether they are bacterial, viral or fungal. All Honeymark products use organic, active Manuka Honey UMF 10+. The honey is indigenous to New Zealand which is then imported and blended into the cream and lotions.
