Description of Harvester Hypodown Hypoallergenic Down Comforters
The Harvester's unbleached, undyed, chemical-free 312-thread count fabric makes this hypoallergenic comforter the perfect choice for a natural night's sleep. These comforters not only feel great but look great too. They are edged with cambric cotton piping and stitched with a simple yet elegant baffled box design. The Harvester Comforter rests in perfect harmony with the environment with its natural cotton cover and pure natural Hypodown fill. Regular goose down can cause allergic reactions in some people, which is why we love the Hypodown comforters that are guaranteed by the manufacturer to be hypoallergenic. Hypodown fill is a mix of pure Hungarian goose down and Syriaca clusters. Syriaca (commonly known as milkweed) is the only natural material that suppresses down's allergic qualities while simultaneously increasing its loft and insulation. The resulting blend is lightweight and wicks moisture away from your body far more quickly than either down or synthetics. Hypodown is Hypoallergenic: Goose down can cause allergic reactions in some people. It is not the down that does this, however, but rather it is the dust particles remaining on the down after washing and processing. Our comforters and pillows are guaranteed by the manufacturer to be hypoallergenic. This is accomplished by combining syriaca clusters (commonly known as milkweed) with the down. The syriaca clusters enhance the natural properties of the down as well as stabilize the components that cause people to suffer down allergies from their comforters.
Note: Hypodown has been tested in the offices of Allergy and Asthma Doctors in the United States and Europe. These tests prove that most people who are allergic to down can use Hypodown without reactions.

Syriaca clusters
are hypoallergenic and stabilize the components in down that cause allergic reactions when used as fill in comforters. Syriaca floss is a natural hollow fiber that is hypo-allergenic by itself. When syriaca floss and goose down are combined, the floss traps and suppresses the dust and dander to which some people have allergic reactions to. These clusters actually enhance the natural properties of down and are a fantastic fill for comforters and pillows. Syriaca clusters are cleaned and separated from the pods through mechanical action and air. No chemicals are used. It takes 800 pods to make one pound of Syriaca clusters.
Note: Many down comforters found in retail stores have fill powers of 550 or less.
Care of:
Spot Clean when possible. Place in the dryer on low heat to refresh the down or hang on a clean line on a sunny day. Please do not leave it in direct sunlight. These comforters are machine washable. However, we recommend that these Hypodown comforters be professionally laundered by a company familiar with cleaning down. You can send your comforter away to be cleaned by the Blanc Plume French Laundry (1-800-307-0229), a company that specializes in cleaning fine linens, antiques and comforters. To clean your comforters and pillows they use a special, natural process which preserves the life of delicate goose down. They also ensure that your down is dried properly and thoroughly, at low temperatures, to allow for maximum loft. They also offer comforter restoration services as well.

count of comforter: These beautiful unbleached, chemical-free, hypo-allergenic Hypodown comforters have a
312 thread count cambric cotton cover. Thread count is the number of threads per inch of
a fabric. The higher the count, the smoother and silkier the fabric feels.
The higher thread count also provides a stronger barrier to any of the
fill escaping from the comforter.
Comforter
fill: Hypodown comes in different fill powers which is the technical
term for the space one ounce of down occupies in cubic inches. The higher
the fill power, the better the clusters are at trapping air and keeping
you warm. Higher fill power also gives you more warmth with a lighter
weight comforter. These down comforters are sold in two fill powers: 700
fill and 800 fill. The Hypodown mix consists of 80% Pure Hungarian Goose Down and 20% Syriaca Clusters.
The 80% of down in the 800 fill comforter contains 95% large plumule down
clusters and only 5% of down plumule pieces. The 80% of down in the 700
fill comforter contains 85% large plumule down clusters and 15% of down
plumule pieces.

The down and syriaca in these comforters is the cleanest, least treated
fibers we could find anywhere. The down is de-dusted and gently washed
up to 8 times in an environmentally friendly cleansing solution and rinsed
three times. This cleaning process and renders the down pH neutral. These
are the most hypoallergenic down comforters we could find - due to the
quality of materials used, cleaning process and the addition
of the natural syriaca clusters.

Summary:
Down comforters appeal to people who like the “puffy” look, and the Hypodown line is as good as it gets for those of us who are allergic to down. It is a fusion of down and Syriaca which in part explains its unusual hypoallergenic properties. I would always buy an 800-fill regardless of weight, but economize on the covering, as you still must keep this comforter in a duvet cover. Think about it, once a comforter is in its duvet cover you will never know the difference in the fabric shell. If you are in a southern climate the “Summer” weight is the one you should get, but the rest of us are best off with “Classic.” While not the cheapest comforter you can buy, these are warranted for a lifetime of 75 years, so are clearly made to last. Whichever style of Hypodown comforter you buy, which is a matter of taste, you are not going to be disappointed. This manufacturer makes beautifully constructed comforters where there have been no shortcuts in any part of the fabrication process. The most important part of a down comforter is the quality of its fill which we recommend should be 700 or 800 fill weight for the lightest, fluffiest, and best insulating down. The next important feature is the quality of manufacturing and its construction, which you find in Hypodown is box baffling which makes sure the down has enough room to remain lofted but does not shift around. We have used these comforters for years and only after years of use do you even see the barest of wear on the stitching. To avoid any wear at all cover the comforter at all times with a duvet cover and that will offer it protection and you will not have to have it cleaned. Of course in my household, husbands with coffee spills and animals on the bed mean that the comforter is showing some wear but more our fault than the manufacturers.
For allergy sufferers, the cleanliness and hypoallergenic properties of the down is paramount, and the Hypodown Collection does it better than most because it introduces a tiny amount of Syriaca into the down, which in turn enhances its hypoallergenic properties. You do not need the most expensive covering; this comforter will last more than a lifetime if given proper care and that means putting it into a duvet cover so it is protected. For most people the Monarch covering is the most effective choice since it is still soft and supple whereas the Harvester can be a bit stiff and crackly. The Pearl Crescent is actually our most popular style because it is out and out the most puffy and luxurious.
We recommend the “Classic Weight” for most people most of the time. The “Artic” is just too warm for words and most people would find it oppressive. The “Southern’ is perfect for warmer weather climates and during summer up in New England.
Most important of all in my personal opinion, is that Hypodown comforters are cruelty free and the down is not “hand harvested” but the down is collected naturally as part of the molting process. Hand harvesting is banned in some countries and for good reason- how shall I put it bluntly? Live birds are strung up and plucked till they are bare and bleeding and shrieking as the down and feathers drop into collector bins below. Hypodown is collected in a way that is cruelty free, so animal lovers need not feel guilty when they buy one.
These are beautiful comforters and will keep you warm and toasty as only down can do while not provoking an allergic reaction. It does not get better than that.
