A great budget choice that does not lack in performance.
HEPA exhaust filter helps prevent dust particles from being exhausted back into the room making it a safe choice for maintaining good indoor air quality. Though the Tidy Maid's testing results are not as good as some of our other HEPA upright vacuums, it is within our acceptable range to be a safe vacuum that will not pollute your indoor air quality. Our testing results showed the air released from the exhaust filter was 66.7% cleaner than the air entering the vacuum, and the overall room particle count was reduced by 0.6% while the vacuum was in use.
The Tidy Maid is simple and easy to use with straight forward controls and easy to use attachments.
Accessory tools are neatly stored on the vacuum and are easily accessible for on the go use.
Filters and dust bags are easy to access and can be changed in less than a minute. The dust bags can be sealed shut to prevent dust and dirt from spilling out as you dispose of them.
Good suction power and aggressive brush agitation leaves your carpets clean and looking refreshed.
Self adjusting powerhead makes it easy to move from different carpet types without having to stop and manually adjust the powerhead height.
The headlight feature is a nice addition for cleaning dark areas like closets and under furniture.
The soft rubber furniture guard around the power head is appreciated, protecting walls and furniture from scuffing.
Minuses:
The brush roll can not be turned off, and though the brush roll features natural bristle which are gentle, we would not recommend using a motorized brush roller on delicate hardwood or parquet flooring or delicate natural fiber rugs.
You can not adjust the suction power of this vacuum which makes it hard to use on small rugs and upholstery such as curtains.
This upright vacuum is noisy, but the noise is a result of its high suction power.
Summary:
Unlike the heavy duty Might Maid, the Tidy Maid is constructed mostly of plastic which makes it a lighter-weight vacuum, however it does feature a metal brush roll for extra durability. With a very affordable price tag, this vacuum gives high quality performance with HEPA filtration for clean air as you vacuum. The Tidy Maid is not a fancy upright vacuum and it’s not as quiet as a luxury vacuum, but it does do a great job at cleaning carpets. We always applaud a self adjusting powerhead which allows the vacuum to accommodate different carpet types and bare floors seamlessly. The biggest disadvantages of this vacuum is that the brush roll can not be turned off so it is not ideal for delicate bare floors or natural fiber rugs, and there is no suction control so it is difficult to clean small or lightweight rugs and curtains. The Tidy Maid would be a great choice for a budget shopper who is looking to purchase a good quality upright vacuum with the bare essentials for cleaning carpets, stairs and furniture. It is also easy to maintain with very affordable replacement bags, filters and accessories.
