I have had my Electrolux Oxygen for several years at this point without any breakdown or need for any spare parts. It is going strong and I fully expect it to last well beyond its 5 year warranty period.
There are several features and tools that I particularly like in this vacuum which makes it ideal for use on the lower level of my house which is mostly carpeted.
Pluses:
The floor brush is of exceptional quality and if you have polished wood floors or tiles, this horsehair brush will whip up the crumbs and dust bunnies in a jiffy.
The dusting brush is also very nice and does a good job at removing dust in hard to reach crevices and corners around your furniture or baseboards so you do not have to bend down.
I own two power brushes, a euro style power brush which Electrolux no longer sells and a full size power brush. I personally like the discontinued euro power brush because it is lighter and quieter. However, the full size power brush does a great job at removing embedded dirt in carpeting and it has adjustable carpet height so it is very effective on a wide variety of carpet types. (It is just a little noisy for my taste and my cats go hide when they see it coming.)
The inclusion of finger tip controls to adjust the suction as well as shut the vacuum on/off and control the brush roll is a plus that is usually only found on more expensive vacuum cleaners.
The accessory tools click on and off easily although not as smoothly as a Miele vacuum and I prefer tools which are hidden on board instead of on the handle, but the latter is purely a matter of aesthetic preference since they are certainly convenient if they are close to hand - I just worry that they might get knocked off and eventually lost.
The vacuum is easy to open up and replace the bag which is a nice fiber bag and though on the small size, it offers good air flow so you can use the bag until it is packed full without losing suction power. Also when you remove the bag you can pull the built-in tab and seal off the opening to make sure no dust or dirt falls out.
The Oxygen 3 gets brownie points for moving around easily with its big wheels and bumper for those people who drag their vacuum around corners and who would otherwise chip the paintwork or furniture.
Minuses:
Accessory tools are located on the handle and are more likely to get knocked off then when they are stored on the canister.
Crevice tool is not as long as we would have liked.
The vacuum bags are small at only 2 quarts although they maintain their suction until the bag is amply full.
Summary:
The Electrolux vacuum is to my mind a perfect size for those of us who are not into heavy lifting. It is not a miniature vacuum with tiny little bags which clog up in a heart beat, neither is it a big clunker where you have to take a deep breath to lift it anywhere. It is the right size to get the job done and it does not exhaust you in the process. If I had to sum the Oxygen3 up in a nutshell; I would say that this vacuum performs considerably better than any machine of a comparable price point, providing the user with a great deal of performance at a very fair price. It does not have the pizzazz and some of the advanced user friendly features found for example in a Miele, but it costs far less and it does the job without emptying your wallet. It still earns its place in my house.
