Electrolux developed the Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner with swivel steering to compete with the very popular Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaners. Attractively priced lower then Dyson, the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A provides a bagless cyclonic system with sealed HEPA filtration and washable filters.
Pluses:
Great filtration for clean air as you vacuum. Reviewers were pleasantly surprised to discover the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner exhausted zero particles back into the room! Our test results show the HEPA exhaust filter captured 99.9% of all particles larger than 0.3 microns and no particles escaped from any other location on the vacuum.
Strong suction power to deep clean carpet and leave it looking refreshed. Reviewers were happy with the powerhead’s performance on a variety of carpet types and all agreed the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner did a great job picking up surface dirt and debris as well as deep embedded dirt and dust.
Power controls & brush roll controls located within easy reach. The control panel for the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner is on the back of the vacuum and within easy arm reach while operating the vacuum. Reviewers were happy the buttons are clearly labeled and easy to push.
Swivel steering improves turning. Reviewers liked how the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner was easier to turn around sharp corners and maneuver around furniture. Overall reviewers agreed maneuverability was good. However, other than the quick turning they did not think it felt much different than using a standard upright of comparable size and weight.
Minimal assembly needed – comes ready to use. Reviewers were happy to find the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner comes all put together and ready to use straight out of the box. No tools need to assemble, just snap in place two pieces on the back of the vacuum.
Very easy to use extension wand and hose attachments. Reviewers found it very easy to remove the wand from the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner and were happy that it was an uncomplicated, straight forward process (unlike the Dysons). Reviewers reported that because the quick-release wand system was easy to manipulate they found themselves using it much more often.
Large powerhead with edge to edge cleaning. The Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner’s powerhead has a 13 inch brush roll with stiff nylon bristles on each edge. Reviewers liked that they could clean up close to furniture with either side of the powerhead and were able to get more cleaning done in each pass thanks to the large cleaning path.
Long power cord and extended reach. Reviewers were happy with the large cleaning radius of the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner and were able to clean a large area and staircases without having to relocate to another power outlet. The Nimble has a long 30 ft power cord and when paired with the 14 ft of extended reach cleaning, you can clean up to 44 ft from where the vacuum is plugged in!
Improved 5-year warranty. Reviewers were happy to learn Electrolux increased their warranty on the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A upright vacuum cleaner to 5 years; a nice improvement over the 1 to 2 year warranty that came with the older Electrolux vacuum cleaner models.
Minuses:
Not good for vacuuming bare floors. Reviews were not pleased with the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaners performance on bare floors. Other than the option to turn the powerhead’s brush roll off, the Electrolux Nimble does not have the features necessary to be effective at picking up dirt from bare floors without scattering dust and debris around. In order for a powerhead to effective on bare floors it needs to have a dirt strip behind the brush roll to help capture debris and it needs to have adjustable height so it can be lowered to the floor surface for proper suction.
3-in-1 Versa tool is not very functional. All of the reviewers complained about the combo Versa tool and agreed it was not very effective at any task. When reviewers tried to use it as a crevice tool they found it to be too short and thick to get into small or deep crevices and suction was lost through the creases at the sides. When they tried to use it as an upholstery tool they didn’t like how they had to keep pressure on it for it to lay flat (it is spring loaded to stay shut in the crevice tool position). When trying to use it for stair cleaning they did not like how they had to hold the tool in position and guide it to the area they wanted to clean in order to keep it open.
Powerhead is not self-propelled & has no carpet height adjustment. Though reviewers loved the cleaning power of the powerhead they did have a couple of complaints. They found the powerhead required some effort to move back and forth and when used on high pile carpet it became harder to push.
No suction adjustment. Reviewers found it hard to vacuum small or lightweight rugs because there is no way to reduce the suction power of the powerhead. When using the wand and hose for extended reach cleaning there is a suction release value on the wand handle but reviewers did not notice any difference in suction power and said the strong suction made it difficult to vacuum loose upholstery such as curtains.
Large and on the heavy side. At first sight, all reviewers commented that the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner was big. After using it, reviewers said they found it to be a bit bulky and heavier than the Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaners.
Produces a fair amount of noise. Reviewers found this vacuum to be on the noisy side, but not unpleasantly loud. Most of the noise produced from this vacuum is due to the cyclonic air flow and bagless design. You would need to speak loudly if you were to have a conversation while this vacuum is running.
Accessory tools constantly get knocked off their holders. Reviewers agreed the onboard storage of the accessory tools is in a poor location. When the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum is reclined into the vacuuming position the tools are right at the user’s knee level and you can not get very far without knocking them off by accident. All reviewers reported having the tools fall off multiple times while vacuuming.
Hard to attach the accessory tool holder/cord wrap clips to the back of the vacuum. Reviewers reported having a hard time to attach the two clips to the back of the vacuum. These clips are the only part of assembly required for the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner and everyone experienced difficultly getting the clips to snap securely into place. A few of the reviewers said they thought they had the clips on securely but as they stared vacuuming one would fall off.
Emptying the dust container is not allergy friendly. Though the filtration of the Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner is allergy friendly, emptying the dust container is not. Regardless of the fact you do not have to touch the dirt to empty it, when the bottom of the bin pops open and the dirt falls out, a dust cloud of particles is released back into the air and can trigger allergies or asthma. Reviewers highly recommend emptying the dust container outside of the house to avoid spreading dust back into the room, and if you suffer from allergies use a filtering face mask to protect you from breathing in the dust particles.
Summary:
The Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner does a fantastic job deep cleaning a variety of carpet types but is not so effective on bare flooring. Its swivel design improves the vacuum's handling but it is fairly large with some bulk and may be too much vacuum for a petite user or for use in a smaller sized home. The Electrolux Nimble EL8605A vacuum cleaner is best suited for a large home that is mostly carpeted.
