The DC35 is exactly what everyone needs for cleaning little messes and tidying up around the house. It is the perfect solution for when you don't have time or don't want to pull out your full size vacuum and would be an ideal vacuum for a small studio, dorm room, boat or RV. It is slim, lightweight, and easy to use and actually has enough suction power to pick up tracked in dirt from rugs or hard floor. And, it is so versatile you can easily clean cobwebs from ceiling corners, dust bunnies from under the couch and crumbs off the kitchen counter!
Pluses:
We were impressed by the strong suction power as it easily picked up dirt from the floor as well as dust and crumbs from furniture and counter tops
It was surprisingly lightweight and easy to use as a stick vacuum. The floor brush is very lightweight and easy to lift off the floor and to maneuver around furniture and from bare flooring to rugs.
Recharging time is much faster than other cordless vacuums that can take up to 12 to 24 hours to fully recharge. The DC35 takes only 3.5 hours to fully recharge after it has run out of power.
This vacuum runs on full suction power up until the very last second of battery life. It does not lose power as it nears the end of its battery power delivering the maximum performance out of the 6-15 minute of run time. The vacuum lasts for 13-15 minutes on regular power mode and 6 minutes on maximum power mode.
The DC35 is very well made from strong materials and quality parts and will outlast many of its cheaper cordless competitors.
Great value for the price! This vacuum not only offers the strongest suction power of all cordless vacuums, but also lasts for up to15 minutes when used on regular power mode. It is also so versatile. It can vacuum carpets and bare floors as well as reach high to the ceiling and be used for spot cleaning in every room of the house.
Minuses:
Fair filtration. Construction is not air tight and its exhaust filter does not capture micro particles however since you are not using this vacuum for more than 15 minutes at a time we did not see this to be a huge issue. Also it did not omit a smell or irritate us while we used it.
Must hold power trigger. Though the power trigger is conveniently located you must hold it in the whole time you are using the vacuum. We much prefer power controls that lock in place to reduce finger fatigue.
Not the quietest of vacuums. Dyson does not make the quietest of vacuums and the DC35 is no exception. It does produce a fair amount of noise, but it is not unbearable or uncomfortable for the user.
Only lasts 6 minutes on maximum suction mode which is not a lot of time. We recommend using it on regular suction mode for the majority of your cleaning and only use maximum suction mode for tough pick ups.
Takes 3 hrs to recharge fully; though that time is much shorter than other handhelds on the market, it still is a long time to wait for only 6-15 minutes of use.
Emptying the dust bin is not allergy friendly. Though the filtration of this vacuum is allergy and asthma friendly, emptying the dust bin is not. Regardless of the fact you do not have to touch the dirt to empty the bin, when the bottom of the bin pops open and the dirt falls out, a dust cloud of particles is released back into the air and can trigger allergies or asthma. We recommend emptying the dust bin outside of the house and use a filtering face mask.
Summary:
This vacuum provides the ability to quickly vacuum up small messes and tracked in dirt from hard floors and rugs, as well as spot cleaning throughout the entire house. Its small turbine head has two sets of bristles which combine with Dyson's strong suction power to do a very effective cleaning job which is a nice change from some of the cheaper competitive products available on the market. A huge bonus for the Dyson DC35 is it is both a stick vacuum and a handheld vacuum so you get all the benefits of the Dyson DC31 handheld vacuums and more for just a small increase in price ($50 more than the DC31 and $30 more than the DC31 Animal). Dyson is not the most budget friendly manufacturer but if you are in need of a vacuum for quick and easy clean-ups around the house and want a product that actually works, the DC35 is well worth the investment.
