Pluses:
The DirtTamer's are some of the only hand held vacuums to have HEPA filtration and wet or dry vacuuming options. Try finding that in a dust buster handheld!
Good performance and power. We liked this cordless Hepa vacuum cleaner best for cleaning dirt off stairs and crumbs and spills on floors or carpets. We dropped some powdered detergent on the floor and to our surprise the DirtTamer Ultima could handle it.
Long battery life for cordless vacuums. The Ultima will last 12 minute and the Supreme will last 8 minutes on a full battery life. We have found that many comparable hand held vacuums only provide about 5 to 6 minutes of good suction power.
Convenient and portable, these vacuums are great for cleaning car upholstery and car mats. The more powerful Ultima model picks up leaves, and other things that are sometimes hard for a small vacuum, however it still does not have the power to pick up pebble-sized rocks.
These vac's were much quieter than other cordless vacuum cleaners we tested, which was surprising considering their stronger suction power.
Removing the dirt/liquid container is easy and gives you easy access to the filters for quick replacement.
Useful accessory tools included. These vacuums include 3 accessory tools that are actually helpful. The extendable crevice tool and squeegee are very nice additions, and along with the upholstery brush, are all stored in the charging base for safe keeping.
Handy indicator lights on the handle show when the vacuum has low battery (a red light) and is when it is charged (green light).
Includes a dirt finding headlight. This feature is great for use in the car or under heat registers or in other tight dark spaces.
Minuses:
We found this cordless vacuum a bit heavier than others we tested. It was more cumbersome to use overhead on blinds and in ceiling corners. This handheld may be too heavy for someone with arthritis in the hand or wrist.
Only useful for small pick-ups and is not meant to be used as a replacement to your regular vacuum cleaner. Though it helps keep a car's interior tidy, it is not designed to pick up piles or mud or salt and dirt build-up.
We were disappointed that the HEPA filter gets clogged so quickly. The HEPA filter is designed to last for 1 year, but depending on your use it may be more like 6 months.
As with all battery powered appliances, the DirtTamer will only last long enough for quick clean up jobs. The battery only holds a charge for 8-12 minutes
One must manually shake or wash dirt and debris from the cup, which is not that fun of a job and can be messy depending on what has just been picked up.
Summary:
We searched for the best available handheld vacuum cleaner and we found it! We were very impressed with many aspects of the DirtTamer cordless vacuum cleaners. We are so happy they come with HEPA filtration system that is safe for allergy sufferers. Both models, but the Ultima in particular, have a long battery life, great suction power, a headlight and can pick up wet spills as well as dry messes. The DirtTamer hand held vacuums are a winner in our books and would make a great gift for anyone on your shopping list. Be forewarned, you'll probably want a DirtTamer for yourself as well!
