The Alen A350 and A375UV each use an all-in-one filter cassette for easy filter changes; replace every 6 months or as indicated by the filter change indicator. The A375UV also has two UV bulbs that need to be replaced annually.
The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers are efficient at removing airborne particulates as well as some gases, chemicals, and odors. The A375UV air purifier includes additional filtration technologies such as Photo-Catalytic Oxidation to help reduce VOCs and odor issues.
Pluses:
The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers offer complete air filtration removing allergens like dust and pet dander as well as common household odors and gases. During our testing both models removed over 90% of the particles in the air on the first filter pass.
The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers use a combination filter that includes the pre-filter, HEPA filter and activated carbon which makes filter changes quick and easy, requiring less than 60 seconds of your time.
Unique design is compact and user-friendly. The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers are easy to use with clearly labeled push button controls. Their slim box-style design fits nicely on the floor or they can be mounted on a wall to save floor space.
The Alen A375UV air purifier features independent particle and odor sensors. These sensors regulate the fan speeds when on Auto-mode to efficiently operate the air purifier in accordance with the air quality of the room. The Auto-mode setting is a "must-have" feature for those who run their air purifier constantly and desire the most effective and efficient air filtration at all times. Auto-mode provides efficient use of energy and keeps the unit running on the quietest setting when air quality is good. It only increases fan speed as needed when an increase in particles or odor is detected by the sensors.
The Alen A375UV air purifier uses PCO Technology decomposes odors, volatile organic chemical (VOC) pollutants, and kills viruses and bacteria. This additional technology does mean more maintenance and more maintenance cost. However, only the UV lamps require replacing and this needs to be done just once a year with a cost of $59. Luckily, the TiO2 grid does not need to be replaced and will continue to work effectively as long as the UVC bulbs are working effectively.
The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers have filter change indicators to monitor the filter life so you don’t have to. This is very convenient and helpful to ensure proper use and effective filtration.
Alen's lifetime warranty is very generous and rarely seen in the air purifier industry. Our review team was very pleased to know a manufacturer is willing to stand behind their product for its entire useful life.
Minuses:
Not our quietest air purifiers: The noise level on the Alen A350 and A357UV air purifiers is not unreasonable but it also is not whisper quiet. The first two speeds are relatively quiet and speed 3's quietness is subjective depending on your noise sensitivity. Speed 4 is noticeable noisy and generally only used for quick cleaning of stagnant air or if there is an abundance of dust, pollen or odors present.
Chemical, gas and odor control is limited: If your primary reason for getting an air purifier is for chemical, gas or VOC control then the A350 or A375UV air purifiers are not your ideal choice. Though they both address light chemical, gas and odor air quality issues, they do not have a lot of carbon and therefore will not provide the dwell time needed to effectively absorb the pollutants and the carbon filter will become saturated quickly in heavily polluted environments.
Lifetime warranty is conditional: Alen's air purifier lifetime warranty requires the filter to be changed every 6 months to keep it valid. For the Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers this means a maintenance cost of $118 per year, or more if you use an upgraded filter replacement such as the silver ion HEPA filters for germ and virus control. If you do not run the air purifier constantly everyday, and only run it at night or during allergy season, then you will find that the filters actually last much longer than 6 months. If you care more about efficient use of your filters than about the lifetime warranty, you might as well save some money and only change the filters when indicated by the air purifier's filter change indicator.
Summary:
The Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers use the same filters and do a very good job at removing allergens and light household odors. The main difference between the two models is the amount of technology they include. The A350 is the less expensive option and has quickly become a customer favorite among those looking for an affordable, multi-purpose allergy air purifier that does not take up a lot of space. For those who do not mind spending a bit more, the A375UV offers UV and PCO advanced filtration technology which improves its ability to remove VOC and odor pollutants. We are very happy with the performance and functionality of the Alen A350 and A375UV air purifiers and are pleased to recommend them for general, all-purpose air cleaning for someone who suffers from allergies.
